In the wee hours
Of the morning,
I awake and lay in bed,
Listening to sounds
Of his paws
Upon the hallway carpet
As big dog paces,
While next to me
Little dog snores.
I can feel my laid, back cat
Snuggled against my toes.
Satisfaction and calmness cloak me,
In place, of those
Old, too familiar woes.
As I lay here, once again,
Realization hits, that
Circumstances can change.
I no longer own
The old Northern homestead.
Which for years
We called our home.
Now, we’ve settled in,
Just under
Nine hundred miles
Have been roamed.
This day, I possess a fresh
Freedom to rebuild.
Joyous memories to make,
A chance to regenerate a life.
Such remarkable opportunities’,
Surrounded by the Souths’
Alluring, signature décor.
Which I and the dogs
Have already begun to explore.
EUREKA!
