Transitioning 2.22.19

I’m cold, I’m hot,

I’m hot, I’m cold.

I’m a little shy

And then I’m bold.

What was that?

Oh that?

It was a zap!

A tingling if you may.

My fingers, my toes,

It comes and goes.

Take a hot shower, ahhh!

Go for a walk!

Drink lots of water,

Flush it out!

Breath! Just breath!

Drink a healthy smoothie

Make it two!

Oh crap!

What was that?

Another zap!

Just because there’s a PhD

Doesn’t mean, they

Know what’s best for me.

For years I’ve studied

My anxiety.

I’m hot, I’m cold

I’m cold, I’m hot!

I’m a little shy

And then I’m bold.

What was that?

Oh that?

It was a zap!

A tingling if you may.

My fingers, my toes,

It comes and goes.

Hanging in there,

Soon it will be over.

Good morning,

Yesterday morning, when I took the dogs out for their morning walk… the sky, almost daylight bright from the light beaming from the moon and stars, looked as if someone had tossed hand fulls of cotton balls all about. It was an awesome sight! This morning, it’s dark and drizzling.

BUT there is “nothing” that can darken this day!

TODAY, I will be attending my youngest grand daughter’s birthday party. It will be the first time I will be able to appear in person, not via FACETIME!

Happy Dance!!  WOOT WOOT!!

Tomorrow, I will start the med change, for today I will revel in what I have been hoping to do for FIVE years!

Healthy is GREAT! But…. A Challenge to My Health Conscious Friends 2.13.2019

no matter how slow you go 2.13.19 blog post saying

Live healthy!! Eat right!

Exercise!!

This supplement helps with this and that and also gives a boost to, etc…

Take this med to help with your anxiety… GREAT! NOT!!

These days, so many individuals are suffering from high blood pressure! Almost every

healthy supplement states- will help lower your blood pressure.

Fantastic, RIGHT?

WRONG!

There are some of us who have a naturally low blood pressure.

Mine happens to be around 90/60!

If I lower it anymore, I’ll be on the floor!  ha!

My standard heart rate equals 57. Not too bad, eh?

Walking around in a dazed, weakened stupor is not only dangerous

but DEFINITELY NOT FUN!

Interestingly enough, as most of my friends are being told to watch their salt intake,

I have instructions to increase mine. Hey! What can I say? SORRY!

Much like my dad, I have always been a pepper lover!! If it’s not covered in black,

delectable, coarse speckles, it needs more!  😉

Yesterday, for Valentine’s day and my 57th (eek!) birthday, I had a scheduled primary care visit.

**He is literally taking me off my 12 year anti-anxiety regiment of  1.5 xanax in am, .5- 2 hours later, .5- 2 hours later and .5 at bedtime- cold turkey and switching me to 1mg of lorazepam twice per day, and upping my 25 mg Topiramate to twice per day.

I checked with the local pharmacist. She is not impressed that he is having me quit xanax cold turkey, but said is should not be life threatening. GOOD NEWS!

Unfortunately, I will be experiencing withdrawals. OH SHUCKS!

I am researching, things to have on hand for healthy cleansing/nutritious smoothies, hydration and whatever else I can find.

Here is THE CHALLENGE for all my

HEALTH CONSCIOUS friends out there:

Find me some healthy lifestyle foods and smoothies,

that will “NOT DECREASE” my blood pressure,

PLUS

Any HELPFUL TIPS you can give me, to get through this transition

will be way beyond appreciated. (I am literally scared sh*tless)

Anxiously, awaiting your comments!!

Kind Regards and Happy Friday- K

#Winning (SIWO POETRY CONTEST ENTRY) 2.11.2019

Chief stepping out in the field with copyright

In the wee hours

Of the morning,

I awake and lay in bed,

Listening to sounds

Of his paws

Upon the hallway carpet

As big dog paces,

While next to me

Little dog snores.

I can feel my laid, back cat

Snuggled against my toes.

Satisfaction and calmness cloak me,

In place, of those

Old, too familiar woes.

As I lay here, once again,

Realization hits, that

Circumstances can change.

I no longer own

The old Northern homestead.

Which for years

We called our home.

Now, we’ve settled in,

Just under

Nine hundred miles

Have been roamed.

This day, I possess a fresh

Freedom to rebuild.

Joyous memories to make,

A chance to regenerate a life.

Such remarkable opportunities’,

Surrounded by the Souths’

Alluring, signature décor.

Which I and the dogs

Have already begun to explore.

EUREKA!

My Favorite Free Photo Editing App and more 2.7.2019 (A 40 second read)

as the rooster crows 02032019 sunrise

Happy Thursday!

A quick shout out to my son.

Happy Birthday!!

I cannot  believe it’s been 32 years since the first time I held you in my arms.

D, I hope you have a fantastic day!!

Love,

Mom ❤

First of all I cannot take credit for the discovery of these  two gems. That pat on the back, goes to BGage, The  Black wall blog’s photographer!

Most of us love to take pics. I am not fond of pictures that are played with to the point, they no longer look real. Simple lighting and the option to go Black and White or make my blue just a touch bluer is all I need.  The best part? THEY ARE FREE!

SnapSeed – A Photo and Video app. I truly enjoy the photo options with this free app. I noticed the crop restriction is a lot more rigid than my Iphone photo app, so I generally have my photo cropped prior to opening it in Snapseed.  You can modify your clicks a variety of ways. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Adobe Lightroom CC – I only use this application to add the copyright to the bottom of my photos. It has the option to purchase more high end modifications features, I chose not to. I will sometimes hit the auto enhance just to see what it does.  THE BEST part of this app is when you share your picture, it automatically adds a copyright to it. You have control over the size, font style etc.  Look under settings/sharing options.

Normally, I just share it to myself in messenger and then download it. Let me know if you have tried it and what tricks you use.

Before

After

chief with the copyright logo at the bottom what a love

Both of the apps that I mention are all that was used for the photography in our “Where the Cows Still Play”, Coffee Table book we published. Please, check it out on Amazon when you have a chance. It makes an excellent gift!

Kind Regards and #winning – K

note: I was not paid for mentioning or writing this blog post on these two apps. They are just a couple of fun apps I wanted to share. 🙂

A Place for Everything 2.3.2019

as the rooster crows 2 2.3.2019 sunrise

Moving?

Leave the negative dirt and dust behind.

Rule of thumb:  New place/home, once you arrive, purchase a new dust pan, broom and vacuum cleaner.

Excellent concept!

That is exactly what I did. Now that I am in North Carolina I have purchased  a bright red broom and dustpan, the  vacuum is a purple upright, bagless Hoover.

Bright vibrant colors for a fresh start!

A place for everything and everything in it’s place. Who said that?

As I open my moving boxes, each piece of  memorabilia is cleansed  with clorox wipes.  Each piece of  clothing and bedding is either tossed or freshly washed.  This should remove any negativity from the past.

A slow process, but definitely worth it.

NOW the difficult part. Where should each precious item go?

The newest trend is to be a minimalist. That is a fantastic thought. For me, there are some things that cannot be replaced. My antique saws and antique tools from my older brother.

The memory of my pond  in the garden out front. I brought these frogs, to always carry a piece of that pond with me.

froggies from the pond garden at home

Going through the totes of a large variety of items, I realize that some will have a place others will not.

Setting up your new place:

When someone walks through your front door… what will they see? When you walk through the door what says “HOME” to you?

Well I am off to play with some antique washboards and other beloved treasures.

Enjoy your day.

Here in North Carolina the sun is shining on Superbowl Sunday!!

Love and hugs to all.

Kind Regards – K

Own the Day! 1.31.2019

orangeflowersfromghehauntedhouse

Good morning all.

19 degrees here in North Carolina! We are extremely lucky considering other parts of the country are experiencing sub-zero temps.

I wanted to share a little something I wrote a few weeks ago. When you endure days with anxiety, panic and depression, you often have to reach deep to find your strength.

Writing brings my inner strength to the forefront of my mind and helps me  grab onto the life I deserve! Putting my thoughts on paper, re-enforces the positive and gives me a little extra push, for my continuous journey forward.

Part of #winning is learning what it takes to be your own cheerleader!

Own the Day

‘Own the day or the day could own you.’- Kallie Knight

She was back! The drug, the doctor had prescribed day before yesterday, had taken her to a euphoria buzz, onto fog brain, then about 12 hours later, weakness, severe headache, heart palpitations accompanied by a sore throat.

Thursday had been a waste.  She couldn’t sleep. She couldn’t think clearly enough to perform the simple task of washing the dishes.

Damn doctors, she thought. Why can’t they listen? She had told her new primary care physician, that anything he prescribed needed to be the lowest dose then divided by half.  Thank heavens she had taken half a pill, 10 mg of the 20 mg prescription.

The drug? ESCITLOPRAM. It was supposed to enhance her mood, work with her current depression med. Now, she knew, when and IF she attempted it again, she was would only take 5mg.

Right now, she had responsibilities. Her dogs, prepping to finally, after a month and a half of living in an interim place, to MOVE! A REAL apartment!  The place she would call home.

K smiled as she  looked forward to hanging her hat!

YES! Today she would start to move a few things.  Luckily, her daughter who currently lived there, had the second bathroom cleaned out. Today, she would pick the items that could fit into that room. Only, fifteen minutes away from her current location it was like the difference from night and day.

Troutman, NC was a slice of heaven! Acres of fields, open space with the bonus of horses and cows, down the road. It was the one place, her whole being felt at home.

FINALLY, she felt HOPEFUL!

Doing the best one can, under any circumstance is what earns a person the title of survivor.

Feeling intense relief, she sipped her morning coffee, and felt exhilarated!

She KNEW-

TODAY, SHE OWNED THE DAY!

“WEATHER” OR  NOT WE ARE HAVING FUN…. HAHAHA!

after the storm 31.29.2019

In the northern part of the east coast,  in the last two weeks, they have experienced 12-14 plus inches of snow a few times, and quick thaws causing icy roads, walkways along with some flash flooding.  They are enduring an ongoing windchill factor that drops the temperature well below zero. New Hampshire and Vermont as well as other parts of the country are experiencing EXTREME Winter!

img_8555

img_9436

When one thinks of North Carolina, generally, the mind envisions hot sunny, humid days. Surprise! They DO have winter!

This morning, as I walked the dogs, there was a crisp, crackle to the grass comparable to the sound of the crinkle-crunch of when my cat attempts to sneak into a freshly opened bag of potato chips.

Temperature?  Twenty-four degrees!

When I first arrived to North Carolina, it was barely 48 hours following an all time record breaking snowfall. As the last six-ish weeks have flown by, I have experienced, rain,  frozen water droplets hanging from the branches, while the ground remained wet but too warm to freeze.

crispy ice on the branches statesvile nc

In the last 2 weeks there have been school delays due to icy roads. Sounds like Wintry weather to me!

The temperature ranges from 63-38 degrees during the day, then drops to the 20-30s at night. Mother Nature seems to enjoy the element of surprise as this transpires in no particular order and without warning.

img_9428

One day I will be a bit hot in my hoodie, the next I have my purple scarf wrapped about my neck as I add a winter coat to take the dogs outside into the brisk air! Three hours later I may be in a hoodie again, with blue skies, sunshine and what I deem to be the perfect not too hot, not too cold temperature.

I have felt blessed, weather-wise, to witness this time of year in Statesville and Troutman, NC!

Well I am off to do more unpacking in hopes of having some sort of order when L arrives!!

❤

Have a wicked awesome Wednesday!!

HELLO EVERYONE!

Finally, I am back!

So much has happened, I will attempt to give you the Reader’s Digest version:

First of all I would like to say, I have missed every single one of you. Sounds crazy, but I love being a part of the blogging family!  Sending out warm wishes and K hugs all around!!  🙂

I am finally  moved into my new apartment! Thank you very much to my daughter, her new hubby and brothers! Happy dance going on here!!

Back in the country again! Yes! Troutman, NC is a little bit country.

When I walk the dogs early in the morning, I can hear the cows mooing down the street!

Abby and Chief, feel quite at home! Lot’s of grass, space and a whole lot of new smells. What more could a beloved fur child ask for?

chief and abby exploring at their new house

These last few days have been  frustrating, eye-opening and a celebratory time.

Celebration: Moved and a whole bedroom of boxes to explore! Wifi is back! We feel extremely at home in our new place. One neighbor even brought me some of his specialty chicken as a welcome to the neighborhood! Too cool!

My grandaughter started a new Christian private school yesterday! A glorious opportunity for her to receive a wonderful education!

Eye opening:  I have a new primary physician! He was very intelligent and I loved the overall feel of the office. They called me “Miss K”.

I got my overdue eye exam done. New glasses on the way!

One downside, I have the beginning stages of cataracts! A bit of a scare for me.  Macular degeneration is hereditary, and when my grandmother, soon after retirement had one of hers removed, she lost her sight in that eye. With an inoperable cataract in the other eye eventually she became legally blind. Something, I have had a subconscious fear of for over twenty years.

Frustration: I have one daily medication that I take, that I am having a difficult time finding a doctor to prescribe. It is not controlled in North Carolina as it was up North. The frustrating aspect- I have to somehow prove I am not a drug addict! Guilty until you prove yourself innocent. To prove one’s innocence you have to get an appointment.  That is the challenge! No one will let me in the door so that I can do so. I will NOT give up, I cant! But definitely a PIA!!

#Winning: I AM HERE!

I am getting settled!

#Winning 1.17.2019

New in town and still learning my way around as I Prep for a very special
Wedding.

YES!! My daughter is getting married this Sunday!

I know that it is in my best interest to assure the “Bride to be” is pleased, with the “Mother of the bride’s outfit”!!

Yesterday, I tried on a variety of outfits, took photos and sent them to my daughter.

Fifteen plus clicks and at least 8 outfits later, we had it narrowed down to black dress slacks, knee length, Olive green sweater, that I can wear with my black ankle boots or a lovely, calf length black dress.

YES! Black, NO LONGER TABOO, can be a very classy look at weddings.   I tried pairing mine with a variety of colored lightweight, waist length, long sleeved, cardigans and colorful scarves.

This event is casual, so I need to be careful not to overdress!

I am no Fashionista, but love that by simply changing your scarf, one can change the overall look and feel of an outfit.

This one, I captioned: “Stephen Tyler” wants his scarf back. 😊

In the middle of the clicks I sent this one to daughter, how could I resist? tee hee!

One hurdle to go!

Now, to find a place to get my hair done.

Remember, I am the “new kid” in town, so I asked some of the cashiers at the local Food Lion, grocery store in Statesville.  SUPER, excited for the wedding, they were eager to help.  Off I went with groceries in hand and a couple of salon options. Fingers crossed I pick the right one!

Stay tuned for pics!

Through the Panic Wall 1.6.2019

With an exasperated groan, Megan threw back the covers. Sitting up, she turned and instantly shivered as her bare feet touched the cold floor. She knew her tossing and turning was causing the dog’s restlessness.  Grabbing her I-phone, the digital clock was showing it was barely 12:30 AM. UGH!

Her mind was buzzing. Round and round, snippets of conversations and events, from the last few months, all playing at once.  Comparable to 60 plus movies; Genres from romance, drama, and a bit of comedy. The brevity and speed of each scene, was comparable to, running on an overload of Red Bull. Thought snippets literally, flashed, flickered and bounced, about her brainwaves.

Her life, not negative, was filled with many questions, with yet to be discovered answers. But…

STOP, dammit!

She grabbed a coat to cover her PJ’s, stuck her feet in her favorite worn out sneakers, and took the dogs outside.

Immediately, they started barking. “Go potty”, she said, but obviously there was someone in the used car lot across the street. They refused to pay attention to their business. Gut intuition added to her heightened anxiety, she quickly gave up and shooed them back into the house and locked the deadbolt.

Pouring herself a mug of coffee, then topping it off with Almond milk, Megan thought, Why fight it? Feeling wide awake, she headed down the hall towards her office and laptop.

Panic attacks, suck!  Sorry, but they do!

Mine are random and occur occasionally, generally within days of encountering

A high stress situation. Much different than the early 90’s when at first I had zero clue as to what was happening. Back then they were an immediate response to seemingly nothing at all and happening several times per week.

Low Pressure Alert! (2 min read)

The sky was pouring buckets, as she was driving down Interstate 77, flowing with the traffic at about 65 mpg when she heard a DING. She looked down at her instrument panel.  The Low tire pressure light was blinking. She could see that her driver’s side tire was down about 3 pounds. She barely got the thought out, about needing to stop and have it checked, when the indicator showed the tire had dropped from 33 lbs down to 25.

As she had been taught years before, she took her hands off the wheel for a brief second. The car didn’t pull to the right.. Hmm, must be a problem with the sensor. Just then the tire indicator, popped up the pencil likeness of her car, showing the tire dropping 25, 15, 12, 8… Suddenly she could hear it. THOP! THOP! THOP! THOP! Then ZERO… the tire was flat.

She eased into the breakdown lane.
As she had left the interstate, with one eye on the almost bumper to bumper speeding traffic, she noticed everything was totally drenched from the down pour.  OH CRIPES! WHAT NOW?

Karen had only been in her new town and state about three weeks. Her mind went to the friendly gas station owner she had stumbled onto, when she accidentally took a wrong turn attempting to find a Shell station her daughter had recommended. She knew she had put the name in her phone.  Ayup, there it was, All Star Quality fuel, Front street. Quickly she googled it on her I-phone. The address and phone number popped up, she called.

Hello? Hi, you probably don’t remember me, but I stopped in and talked with the owner a little over a week ago she said. I just moved here from Maine. I am on I-77 going North, about 1500 feet from Exit 49b to Statesville and my tire just went flat. Can you help me?

The young man on the other end, told her to hold a moment while he went to get the boss. She could barely hear their talking back and forth. Finally, an older gentleman’s voice said, hello? Her reply, was YES? He stated, we don’t do road service, but we have two numbers that you can call that won’t screw you out 400 dollars. Got a pen?

Breathing a momentary sigh of relief, she reached for a receipt from the store she had just left off the previous exit, grabbed a pen and said, I’m ready.

He gave her two numbers. One he said was a tire place that might possible do road service, and the other a wrecker service in case the first number didn’t work. Politely, thanking him for taking the time to help her she hung up.

DEEP BREATH, she encouraged herself as the cars continued to whoosh by on her left. She dialed the first number. A young man answered the phone and she explained her predicament. The place sold used tires and unfortunately didn’t do road service either, but he had a number she could call that should.

Got Something to write this down, he asked? She chuckled. Yup, she replied, I’m ready. She started jotting the number down and the line went dead. DANG, Karen exhaled, as she redialed the number. THREE times the phone was busy. Worst case scenario, if they didn’t pick up on the next call, she could always try the wrecker. Thankfully, the “boss” answered. She started to explain who she was, he laughed and quickly gave her the number, she retorted, I owe you one!

Two cleansing breaths later, she dialed the number. The friendly voice on the phone listened intently as she explained her situation. One problem, he said which direction. She said well I think I am going North, but I can see the Honda dealership on my left. He chuckled and said, young lady YOU are going South. I am sending someone out now. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, she sighed, though her heart continued to pound. She called her daughter at work, to fill her in.  Her daughter helpfully offered to call for help. Nope, Karen said, I believe, I am ok. They had a quick chat and ended their conversation. Now, is NOT the time to need to pee said her brain. Her bladder thought differently.

Now, she had a moment to feel a bit of unsure. It didn’t last long, an orange truck with blinking yellow lights pulled up behind her.

It was an extremely pleasant young man. Full facial hair with a friendly smile. He quickly jacked up the driver’s side. Chatting with him through the drizzle, she explained this model doesn’t come with a spare! It only has a compressor in the back. He asked if she wanted him to try to fix it. He handed her a small piece of flat blue metal less than 1/2”. There’s your culprit. He took her tire back to his truck and was back within 30 seconds. That tiny piece of metal had sliced the whole bottom to side of the tire. Let me call my boss, he hollered as he headed back to his truck.

Before, she knew it, this giant white truck pulled up. It was as the young guy had said during their conversation, George, or as they called him, Grandpa. He popped his head in her window and said, let’s get you into my truck and we shall call around and see if we can find a tire.

The cutest, little, Jack Russell, was napping behind the front bucket seat. George/grandpa asked, “Who gave you, our number?” She answered,” all I have are the numbers.”  Oddly, Karen felt totally safe and almost relaxed. He made three phone calls, gave her a guesstimate of what a new comparable tire would cost, asked would that be ok? He chuckled, they don’t carry your kind of tires around here.

OK he said, let’s go. I said so the tire sounds workable, do they have a ladies room? He gave her a friendly smile and replied, “Sure do.”  Obviously, this was not an abnormal thing.  As they drove to the tire place, I told him what a pleasant, polite young man his guy was. He said, he has a little one month old baby. They chatted amiably.

The typical chain tire place was, more business friendly than personable. Most important, they put the tire on the rim within a few moments and with one quick trip to the restroom, they were on their way back. Grandpa, to assure her car’s safety, had left his business partner with her car.  I asked, “How much am I going to owe you? He gave her, to her surprise, a price way under $100. He wanted to know who had recommended them. She googled them and gave him the name of the place. George/grandpa, stated, “I always try to give business back to people who recommend me.”

Not one hour and 40 mons since the tire sensor had given the first warning DONG, Karen was ready to be on her way. She shook both their hands. George, headed for another call, while his step son, waited behind her, to blink his lights, to alert her when it was safe to pull into the busy Friday afternoon highspeed traffic. Fog and a downpour made visibility poor. Finally, he blinked and off they went. Driving down the road, she smiled as she clenched “Grandpa’s” business card in her hand.

NOW THAT, she thoughts, was good ol’ fashioned hospitality as she reached for the car phone to called her daughter.

Connectedness.

Do things happen for a reason?

What If Karen had NOT accidentally pulled into the
wrong” gas station on Front street, a few weeks prior? Perhaps, this story would have a different ending.

The next time you take a wrong turn and end up at the wrong place, don’t get exasperated or mad, embrace it.

The good people we stumble upon on this journey called life, may amaze you.

Try and leave yourself open to all the universe has to offer.

Yesterday, I awoke, to gray skies but by the afternoon, it was blue skies and upper fifties! All that vitamin D lifts my mind, body and soul.

Today, I awoke to a heavy chest. I opened my eyes and stared straight into Marbre’ Mitten’s eyes. Sure enough, my beloved, chill cat, had laid herself across my chest. She positioned herself perfectly so that our faces were less than an inch apart.  Playing on the meow radio, was her sweet, peaceful purring song.

Chief, Abby and I had our usual 2:30 a.m. trek. Opening the front door, we discovered the beginning of little sprinkles.  A gentle rain as opposed to the torrential downpour Friday. That caused flooding in a few areas closer to the coast.

Chief doesn’t mind, though we all know he prefers snow. It’s poor little Abby. As a Yorkie-poo, much closer to the ground, Chief often leads her into puddles that soak her belly.  She’s a trooper. She just wades on through. Perhaps she needs some colorful boots? (Moments like this, I would love to be a cartoonist with the ability to sketch that visual!)

We walked a few feet west and I noticed, what looked like a baby skunk crossing the road to the grassy hill on the other side. It didn’t quite waddle like a skunk. I was almost sure I saw black and white stripes but… Then I noticed there was a larger one of the same species, already in the grass. The bigger one seemed to have more of a white fur base. Peering through the lights of the street lamps, their movement was different than a skunk. Their shape and the gleaming eyes reminded me of possum? I really don’t know.  Research time! (Input welcomed!)

Checked with my daughter she is saying possum. Sounds like it was a great idea I turned around. They seem to be a bit aggressive towards canines. Eeek!

Happy Monday all!!
